About Atom Computing

Atom Computing builds quantum computers that use neutral atoms as qubits. Individual atoms of elements such as ytterbium are held in place by focused laser beams in a grid, and information is stored in their nuclear spin. Its system for on-premises deployment is called the AC1000. The company was founded in 2018 by Ben Bloom and Jonathan King and is based in Berkeley, California. In November 2024 it worked with Microsoft to entangle 24 logical qubits, each encoded across several physical atoms to reduce errors. These were early demonstrations, not full fault tolerance.

Atom Computing was founded in 2018 and is based in Berkeley, CA, United States. It is listed under Quantum Computing.

What Atom Computing works on

Quantum Computing

A quantum computer is a machine that uses the rules of quantum physics to process information. Its basic unit is the qubit. A classical bit is either 0 or 1. A qubit can be in a superposition, a state that combines both, and its measured result is probabilistic.
