About Groq
Groq designs the Language Processing Unit, or LPU, an inference chip built for fast, predictable execution of AI language models, and runs GroqCloud, a hosted inference service for developers. In December 2025 Groq announced a non-exclusive licensing agreement with NVIDIA for its inference technology, and founder Jonathan Ross and president Sunny Madra joined NVIDIA. Groq remains a separate company, with GroqCloud continuing to operate under new chief executive Simon Edwards. The deal value was reported by CNBC at about $20 billion and was not confirmed by the companies.
Groq was founded in 2016 and is based in Mountain View, CA, United States. It is listed under AI Accelerators, HPC & AI Systems. Reported funding is Assets acquired by NVIDIA ($20B, Dec 2025).

What Groq works on
AI Accelerators
An AI accelerator is a chip, or a part of a chip, designed to run machine learning faster or with less energy than a general-purpose processor. The category includes GPUs, TPUs, neural processing units (NPUs) and chips from many startups.
HPC & AI Systems
High-performance computing (HPC) means using very large clusters of processors working together to solve problems that one machine cannot handle in a reasonable time. These clusters are called supercomputers. They run weather models, physics simulations and, increasingly, AI training.
