About Microsoft Quantum

Microsoft Quantum is the quantum computing effort of Microsoft, not a separate company. It has two parts. Azure Quantum is a cloud service that gives developers access to quantum hardware from partners including Quantinuum, IonQ and Atom Computing, and Microsoft created the Q# language for it. Separately, Microsoft is building its own hardware. It announced the Majorana 1 chip in February 2025 as a step toward topological qubits, a design intended to resist errors at the hardware level. Many physicists question whether the published data show true topological states or a working qubit. Microsoft is headquartered in Redmond, Washington.

What Microsoft Quantum works on

Quantum Computing

A quantum computer is a machine that uses the rules of quantum physics to process information. Its basic unit is the qubit. A classical bit is either 0 or 1. A qubit can be in a superposition, a state that combines both, and its measured result is probabilistic.
