About Aegiq
Aegiq develops photonic quantum computers that it aims to scale toward fault tolerance, meaning machines that keep computing correctly despite errors. It combines deterministic photon sources, which emit single photons on demand, with silicon photonics, which routes light on chips made with standard semiconductor processes. The company says this approach should reduce the complexity, cost and size needed to scale. Its products also include quantum light sources and the LightWorks software development kit. It follows a fabless model, meaning it designs its chips and has outside semiconductor foundries manufacture them.
Aegiq was founded in 2019 and is based in Sheffield, UK, United Kingdom. It is listed under Quantum Computing, Photonic Computing. Reported funding is £23M+.

What Aegiq works on
Quantum Computing
A quantum computer is a machine that uses the rules of quantum physics to process information. Its basic unit is the qubit. A classical bit is either 0 or 1. A qubit can be in a superposition, a state that combines both, and its measured result is probabilistic.
Photonic Computing
Photonic computing uses light instead of electricity to carry or process information. Photons have no charge, so light in a waveguide does not cause the resistive heating that current in a wire does, though lasers and modulators still use power, and many wavelengths can share one waveguide. The industry has two quite different parts: moving data with light, and computing with light.
