About Napatech

Napatech makes SmartNICs and data processing units, which are network cards with their own programmable chips so that packet capture, filtering and monitoring happen on the card instead of the server processor. Its products are built on FPGAs, chips that can be reconfigured after manufacture. The company is headquartered in Søborg, north of Copenhagen, Denmark, and its shares trade on the Oslo Stock Exchange under the ticker NAPA. Napatech states a founding year of 2001 on its own site, while other sources give 2003.

Napatech was founded in 2003 and is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is listed under FPGAs, Edge Computing, Interconnect & Networking.

What Napatech works on

FPGAs

An FPGA, or field-programmable gate array, is a chip whose internal wiring can be changed after it is made. It contains a grid of small logic blocks, memory blocks and programmable connections. Loading a new configuration file, called a bitstream, turns it into a different digital circuit.

Edge Computing

Edge computing means processing data close to where it is produced, on a device or a nearby server, instead of sending everything to a distant cloud data center. In chip terms, edge processors are small, low-power chips that run software and AI models inside phones, cameras, cars and sensors.

Interconnect & Networking

Interconnect is the set of links that move data between chips, between boards and between racks. It includes wires on a package, cables inside a server, and the network switches and optical fibre across a data center. A processor is only as useful as the speed at which it can get data in and out.
