It also sells memory modules and fault-tolerant edge computers. It is the new name of SMART Global Holdings, which began as a memory company in 1988 and bought Penguin Computing in 2018. The rename was announced in October 2024 and finished in April 2025. The company lists its headquarters in Fremont, California.

HPC & AI Systems
High-performance computing (HPC) means using very large clusters of processors working together to solve problems that one machine cannot handle in a reasonable time. These clusters are called supercomputers. They run weather models, physics simulations and, increasingly, AI training.
Memory & Storage
Memory and storage hold the data that processors work on. Memory such as DRAM is fast and loses its contents when power is removed. Storage such as flash (NAND) is slower, cheaper per bit and keeps data without power.
