About Seagate Technology
Seagate Technology makes hard disk drives and data storage systems for consumers, data centers and cloud providers. Its Exos line serves enterprise buyers, and it has promoted heat-assisted magnetic recording, called HAMR, which uses a laser to briefly heat the disk surface so bits can be packed more tightly. In January 2024 it announced the Exos Mozaic 3+, a 30 TB HAMR drive. Seagate began operations in 1979 as Shugart Technology, has its operational headquarters in Fremont, California, and is legally domiciled in Dublin, Ireland. It is a storage supplier rather than a compute chip designer.
Seagate Technology was founded in 1978 and is based in Fremont, California, United States. It is listed under Custom Silicon, Memory & Storage. Its shares trade as STX on NASDAQ.

What Seagate Technology works on
Custom Silicon
Custom silicon means a company designs its own chips for its own products or data centers instead of buying standard parts. The chip is made by a foundry such as TSMC, but the design belongs to the customer.
Memory & Storage
Memory and storage hold the data that processors work on. Memory such as DRAM is fast and loses its contents when power is removed. Storage such as flash (NAND) is slower, cheaper per bit and keeps data without power.
