About Wave Photonics

Wave Photonics provides design tools and services for photonic integrated circuits, which are chips that route and process light instead of electricity. Its offerings include process design kits, which are the rule sets chip designers use for a given factory process, plus component libraries, packaging templates and an automated measurement service. It targets foundries and chip designers and lists partners including Cornerstone, Siemens, Cadence and Synopsys. The company is based at Cambridge Science Park in Cambridge, UK.

Wave Photonics was founded in 2022 and is based in Cambridge, United Kingdom. It is listed under Photonic Computing. Reported funding is £4.5M seed (2024) + £900K grants.

What Wave Photonics works on

Photonic Computing

Photonic computing uses light instead of electricity to carry or process information. Photons have no charge, so light in a waveguide does not cause the resistive heating that current in a wire does, though lasers and modulators still use power, and many wavelengths can share one waveguide. The industry has two quite different parts: moving data with light, and computing with light.
