About Akoustis Technologies
Akoustis made radio-frequency filters, which are small components that let a phone or radio pick out one frequency band and reject the rest. Its main technology was bulk acoustic wave filtering, which uses sound waves in thin crystal layers to handle high frequencies used in 5G, Wi-Fi and defense equipment. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2024. In May 2025 Tune Holdings, a SpaceX subsidiary, bought substantially all of its assets for about $30.2 million in cash plus assumed liabilities, and said it would continue the operations.
Akoustis Technologies was founded in 2014 and is based in Charlotte, NC, United States. It is listed under ASICs.
