About Fabric Cryptography
Fabric Cryptography designs a chip it calls a Verifiable Processing Unit, built to speed up the heavy maths behind zero-knowledge proofs, which let one party show a computation is correct without revealing the data, and fully homomorphic encryption, which computes on data while it stays encrypted. The design uses RISC-V cores with wide vector units and is sold as cards and servers alongside a compiler and a cloud service. Unlike a general GPU, its instruction set targets cryptographic arithmetic. The company was started by Michael Gao and Tina Ju, who are described as MIT and Stanford dropouts.
Fabric Cryptography was founded in 2022 and is based in Santa Clara, CA, United States. It is listed under ASICs, AI Accelerators. Reported funding is $33M Series A (2024).

What Fabric Cryptography works on
ASICs
An ASIC, or application-specific integrated circuit, is a chip designed to do one job or a narrow set of jobs. Its circuits are fixed when the chip is made. A CPU can run any program; an ASIC does what it was designed for and nothing else.
AI Accelerators
An AI accelerator is a chip, or a part of a chip, designed to run machine learning faster or with less energy than a general-purpose processor. The category includes GPUs, TPUs, neural processing units (NPUs) and chips from many startups.
