About Meta (MTIA)
MTIA, the Meta Training and Inference Accelerator, is a family of custom chips that Meta designs in-house for its own AI workloads. The first generations were built mainly to run the ranking and recommendation models that order content across its apps, and Meta has said it is extending the chips to generative AI. Early generations are made by TSMC. In March 2026 Meta set out a roadmap of four further MTIA chips. The programme sits inside Meta Platforms, which is headquartered in Menlo Park, California.
Meta (MTIA) was founded in 2020 and is based in Menlo Park, CA, United States. It is listed under Custom Silicon, AI Accelerators.

What Meta (MTIA) works on
Custom Silicon
Custom silicon means a company designs its own chips for its own products or data centers instead of buying standard parts. The chip is made by a foundry such as TSMC, but the design belongs to the customer.
AI Accelerators
An AI accelerator is a chip, or a part of a chip, designed to run machine learning faster or with less energy than a general-purpose processor. The category includes GPUs, TPUs, neural processing units (NPUs) and chips from many startups.
