About Tesla Dojo
Dojo was Tesla's in-house supercomputer for training the neural networks behind its driver assistance software from video data. Its D1 chip, shown at AI Day in August 2021, was made by TSMC on a 7nm process and was tiled into large training units with fast links between chips instead of relying on conventional server designs. Dojo went into production use in 2023. Bloomberg reported in August 2025 that the project had been disbanded, and sources differ on whether it later restarted. Tesla is headquartered in Austin, Texas.
Tesla Dojo was founded in 2021 and is based in Austin, TX, United States. It is listed under AI Accelerators, Custom Silicon.

What Tesla Dojo works on
AI Accelerators
An AI accelerator is a chip, or a part of a chip, designed to run machine learning faster or with less energy than a general-purpose processor. The category includes GPUs, TPUs, neural processing units (NPUs) and chips from many startups.
Custom Silicon
Custom silicon means a company designs its own chips for its own products or data centers instead of buying standard parts. The chip is made by a foundry such as TSMC, but the design belongs to the customer.
