About OptQC
OptQC develops photonic quantum computers, which use particles of light as the carriers of quantum information rather than superconducting circuits or trapped atoms. The company says this approach offers good scalability and energy efficiency and fits well with optical communications. It is headquartered in Tokyo, in the Toshima ward. Its website names Kan Takase as chief executive and Noriaki Iwata as chief operating officer, and describes an industry hub called HIQALI for optimisation, AI and machine learning uses.
OptQC was founded in 2024 and is based in Tokyo, Japan. It is listed under Quantum Computing, Photonic Computing. Reported funding is 1.5B yen Series A1 (Oct 2025).

What OptQC works on
Quantum Computing
A quantum computer is a machine that uses the rules of quantum physics to process information. Its basic unit is the qubit. A classical bit is either 0 or 1. A qubit can be in a superposition, a state that combines both, and its measured result is probabilistic.
Photonic Computing
Photonic computing uses light instead of electricity to carry or process information. Photons have no charge, so light in a waveguide does not cause the resistive heating that current in a wire does, though lasers and modulators still use power, and many wavelengths can share one waveguide. The industry has two quite different parts: moving data with light, and computing with light.
