About PsiQuantum

PsiQuantum is developing a photonic quantum computer that encodes qubits in single photons and manipulates them with silicon photonic chips. It works with GlobalFoundries to manufacture those chips in a commercial semiconductor foundry, and it has announced Omega, a chipset built for this purpose. The company is building large fault-tolerant systems rather than selling small machines today, with planned compute centers in Brisbane and Chicago. PsiQuantum was founded in 2016, grew out of research at the University of Bristol, and is a private company based in Palo Alto, California.

PsiQuantum was founded in 2015 and is based in Palo Alto, CA, United States. It is listed under Quantum Computing, Photonic Computing. Reported funding is $1B Series E (Sep 2025; BlackRock, Temasek, Baillie Gifford, NVentures).

What PsiQuantum works on

Quantum Computing

A quantum computer is a machine that uses the rules of quantum physics to process information. Its basic unit is the qubit. A classical bit is either 0 or 1. A qubit can be in a superposition, a state that combines both, and its measured result is probabilistic.

Photonic Computing

Photonic computing uses light instead of electricity to carry or process information. Photons have no charge, so light in a waveguide does not cause the resistive heating that current in a wire does, though lasers and modulators still use power, and many wavelengths can share one waveguide. The industry has two quite different parts: moving data with light, and computing with light.
