About SiFive

SiFive designs processor cores based on RISC-V, an open instruction set that any company can use without paying a fee for the architecture itself. It mainly licenses these designs to chip makers, who build them into their own products. In January 2026 it said it would integrate Nvidia's NVLink Fusion, an interconnect that links processors to Nvidia GPUs, into its data centre platforms. SiFive was founded in California in 2015 and is fabless, meaning it does not run its own factories.

SiFive was founded in 2015 and is based in San Mateo, CA, United States. It is listed under ASICs, CPUs & RISC-V. Reported funding is $400M Series G (Apr 2026, Atreides-led, $3.65B valuation).

What SiFive works on

ASICs

An ASIC, or application-specific integrated circuit, is a chip designed to do one job or a narrow set of jobs. Its circuits are fixed when the chip is made. A CPU can run any program; an ASIC does what it was designed for and nothing else.

CPUs & RISC-V

A CPU, or central processing unit, is the general-purpose chip that runs a computer. It reads instructions, does arithmetic and logic, and decides what happens next. Every phone, laptop and server has at least one.
