About Broadcom
Broadcom is a semiconductor and infrastructure software company. Its chip lines include custom AI accelerators it calls XPUs, Ethernet switching and routing silicon, and Ethernet network adapters, which are used in AI and cloud data centers. It also owns infrastructure software, notably VMware Cloud Foundation for private cloud. Broadcom is mostly fabless and names TSMC as a key manufacturing partner. It works with large cloud customers on custom chips and sells networking silicon to system builders. It is headquartered in Palo Alto, California.
Broadcom was founded in 1991 and is based in Palo Alto, CA, United States. It is listed under ASICs, AI Accelerators, Photonic Computing, Interconnect & Networking. Its shares trade as AVGO on NASDAQ.

What Broadcom works on
ASICs
An ASIC, or application-specific integrated circuit, is a chip designed to do one job or a narrow set of jobs. Its circuits are fixed when the chip is made. A CPU can run any program; an ASIC does what it was designed for and nothing else.
AI Accelerators
An AI accelerator is a chip, or a part of a chip, designed to run machine learning faster or with less energy than a general-purpose processor. The category includes GPUs, TPUs, neural processing units (NPUs) and chips from many startups.
Photonic Computing
Photonic computing uses light instead of electricity to carry or process information. Photons have no charge, so light in a waveguide does not cause the resistive heating that current in a wire does, though lasers and modulators still use power, and many wavelengths can share one waveguide. The industry has two quite different parts: moving data with light, and computing with light.
