About Ephos
Ephos is an Italian company developing photonic chips for quantum computing, made on glass rather than silicon. In photonic quantum computing, information is carried by particles of light guided through tiny channels on a chip, called waveguides, and glass can carry light with low loss. The company is listed as based in Milan. Its founding year, funding and any manufacturing plans could not be confirmed from the sources reachable for this review, so none are stated here.
Ephos was founded in 2022 and is based in Milan, Italy. It is listed under Quantum Computing, Photonic Computing. Reported funding is €41.5M EU Chips Act grant (July 2025) for Fab-2.

What Ephos works on
Quantum Computing
A quantum computer is a machine that uses the rules of quantum physics to process information. Its basic unit is the qubit. A classical bit is either 0 or 1. A qubit can be in a superposition, a state that combines both, and its measured result is probabilistic.
Photonic Computing
Photonic computing uses light instead of electricity to carry or process information. Photons have no charge, so light in a waveguide does not cause the resistive heating that current in a wire does, though lasers and modulators still use power, and many wavelengths can share one waveguide. The industry has two quite different parts: moving data with light, and computing with light.
