About YMTC
Yangtze Memory Technologies, or YMTC, makes 3D NAND flash, the storage memory used in solid-state drives and phones. It was founded in 2016 and is based in Wuhan, Hubei. Its Xtacking design builds the memory cell array and the supporting logic circuits on two separate wafers and bonds them together, which differs from the usual approach of placing both on one wafer. YMTC was formerly a subsidiary of Tsinghua Unigroup and has been subject to United States export restrictions.
YMTC was founded in 2016 and is based in Wuhan, Hubei, China. It is listed under ASICs, Custom Silicon, Memory & Storage. Reported funding is IPO process launched May 2026.

What YMTC works on
ASICs
An ASIC, or application-specific integrated circuit, is a chip designed to do one job or a narrow set of jobs. Its circuits are fixed when the chip is made. A CPU can run any program; an ASIC does what it was designed for and nothing else.
Custom Silicon
Custom silicon means a company designs its own chips for its own products or data centers instead of buying standard parts. The chip is made by a foundry such as TSMC, but the design belongs to the customer.
Memory & Storage
Memory and storage hold the data that processors work on. Memory such as DRAM is fast and loses its contents when power is removed. Storage such as flash (NAND) is slower, cheaper per bit and keeps data without power.
