About CEITEC

CEITEC is a Brazilian federal government-owned company set up by decree in 2008 to build up domestic chip design and manufacturing. It is based in Porto Alegre. It has also made chips for vehicle data and blood bag tracking. The government began liquidating the company in 2021 and the new government suspended that process in January 2023. Its present status should be checked.

What CEITEC works on

Custom Silicon

Custom silicon means a company designs its own chips for its own products or data centers instead of buying standard parts. The chip is made by a foundry such as TSMC, but the design belongs to the customer.

ASICs

An ASIC, or application-specific integrated circuit, is a chip designed to do one job or a narrow set of jobs. Its circuits are fixed when the chip is made. A CPU can run any program; an ASIC does what it was designed for and nothing else.
