About Will Semiconductor
Will Semiconductor is a Chinese chip group that acquired the American image sensor maker OmniVision Technologies, with its subsidiary based in Santa Clara, California, and combined it with SuperPix Micro Technology to form the OmniVision group. The group is best known for CMOS image sensors, the light-sensing chips in cameras, along with companion ASICs for automotive, medical, AR and VR, and IoT uses. This is a sensor business more than a compute hardware one.
Will Semiconductor was founded in 2007 and is based in Shanghai, China. It is listed under Custom Silicon, ASICs. Its shares trade as 603501.SS on SSE.

What Will Semiconductor works on
Custom Silicon
Custom silicon means a company designs its own chips for its own products or data centers instead of buying standard parts. The chip is made by a foundry such as TSMC, but the design belongs to the customer.
ASICs
An ASIC, or application-specific integrated circuit, is a chip designed to do one job or a narrow set of jobs. Its circuits are fixed when the chip is made. A CPU can run any program; an ASIC does what it was designed for and nothing else.
