About ams-OSRAM
ams OSRAM is an Austrian-German maker of optical semiconductors, including LEDs, lasers and optical sensors, plus automotive and specialty lamps. Optical sensors are chips that detect light, used for example in phone cameras and displays. It is not a processor maker, though its photonic parts appear in sensing and data links. The Austrian company ams, founded in 1981, took over the German lighting firm Osram in 2020 after a bid in 2019. It is headquartered in Premstaetten, Austria, and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange.
ams-OSRAM was founded in 1981 and is based in Premstätten, Austria. It is listed under Photonic Computing, Custom Silicon. Its shares trade as AMS.SW on SIX.

What ams-OSRAM works on
Photonic Computing
Photonic computing uses light instead of electricity to carry or process information. Photons have no charge, so light in a waveguide does not cause the resistive heating that current in a wire does, though lasers and modulators still use power, and many wavelengths can share one waveguide. The industry has two quite different parts: moving data with light, and computing with light.
Custom Silicon
Custom silicon means a company designs its own chips for its own products or data centers instead of buying standard parts. The chip is made by a foundry such as TSMC, but the design belongs to the customer.
