About SiLC Technologies
SiLC Technologies makes Eyeonic, a family of LiDAR sensors built around a single silicon photonic chip. It uses FMCW, or frequency-modulated continuous wave, which sweeps the frequency of a laser beam so the sensor can read both distance and velocity of an object from each measurement. Most automotive LiDAR instead times short light pulses and infers speed from successive frames. SiLC was founded in 2018 by silicon photonics veterans, is led by CEO Mehdi Asghari and is based in Monrovia, California. Its investors include Dell Technologies Capital, Sony Innovation Fund and Epson.
SiLC Technologies was founded in 2018 and is based in Monrovia, CA, United States. It is listed under Photonic Computing, ASICs. Reported funding is $17M Series A (May 2025, Alter/Dell-led); total ~$54M.

What SiLC Technologies works on
Photonic Computing
Photonic computing uses light instead of electricity to carry or process information. Photons have no charge, so light in a waveguide does not cause the resistive heating that current in a wire does, though lasers and modulators still use power, and many wavelengths can share one waveguide. The industry has two quite different parts: moving data with light, and computing with light.
ASICs
An ASIC, or application-specific integrated circuit, is a chip designed to do one job or a narrow set of jobs. Its circuits are fixed when the chip is made. A CPU can run any program; an ASIC does what it was designed for and nothing else.
